The goal of the Center is to increase the public's healthy years of life by promoting high-quality clinical research and by advancing the application of this research in preventing illness and reducing suffering, disability, and premature death. The Center was established in July 1998 and now includes 18 Faculty members with appointments in the Center. In conjunction with other programs provided by the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, we offer the following educational programs and support services to advance translational and clinical research endeavors and promote an environment that fosters such research.
The Clinical Research Curriculum is a two-year introductory lecture series designed to promote clinical research expertise among clinical investigators at the fellow and junior faculty levels. Since the program began in 1999, we have had over 950 participants from a variety of Texas Medical Center institutions including UT Houston Medical School, MD Anderson Cancer Center, UT Houston Dental Branch, UT Houston School of Nursing, UT Houston School of Public Health, Memorial Hermann Hospital, and Baylor College of Medicine.
A Master's Degree Program in clinical research was developed at the Medical School in September 2002. The curriculum builds on the Clinical Research Curriculum and is designed to meet the educational needs of clinical researchers and to accommodate clinicians' busy schedules; it can be completed in 3-4 years depending on the amount of time a student devotes to the program.
This PowerPoint presentation is a brief outline of the steps involved in getting a clinical research project started at UT-Houston. It provides references for more in-depth information about clinical research methods and links to other clinical research resources at UT-Houston.
The goal of this Program is to apply the principles of epidemiology and population medicine to clinical practice by promoting and teaching the practice of evidence-based medicine throughout the Medical School.
We have a team of experienced researchers committed to helping clinical faculty build the foundation necessary to obtain funded research projects via quality publications and well-supported applications. Our areas of expertise include biostatistics, epidemiology, experimental design, and research ethics.
